another Portland trip in the books!

it’s crazy to see how far we’ve come.

i first (officially) met Leah and Ifie in 2011 in Albuquerque, NM. i had just gotten out of a toxic 6 year relationship and crossing paths with them (and the rest of my ZQC 👑) was one of the best things that ever happened to me. not only did they help me move forward from the ending of said relationship, but they introduced me to a world of a sisterhood/friendship i know most people will never experience in their lifetime. who can say, “i have 6 (now 10) girlfriends, we’re in an all-female breakdancing crew, we practiced together every week, we came up with sets and routines for upcoming battles (in and out of state), we contributed to the community (by teaching classes, hosting and performing for beneficial events, supporting local businesses), we went to Cloud 9 hot yoga for late night cosmic classes, we’ve done countless photography projects, but most importantly, we supported each other. we have thrown our crew members’ their bachelorette parties, helped organized their weddings/birthdays/baby showers/etc., lent each other clothing, appliances, vehicles, anything that may have been needed, helped each other move from one residence to another…you name it! everything was on the table.

i ended up being roomies with Ifie at her house on Arizona Street and Leah was a frequent visitor. she was more like a 3rd roomie. most of my memories were probably us 3 always cooking, baking, practicing breakdancing and house dancing in the living room, dying our hairs, sewing, watching TV series (Game of Thrones, Bad Blood, etc). at that time, Leah was in school getting her masters in Physical Therapy, i was in nursing school (and working as a CNA and at an optometry office) and Ifie was working at OSO Bio. now, almost 12 years later, Leah is living in Portland, OR working as a Physical Therapist, Ifie is now a homeowner of 2 houses in NM and is a traveling Registered Nurse, and i’m currently residing in Chandler, AZ with my parents and 2 kiddos and working as a neonatal flight Respiratory Therapist.

and even though there are states and life events and busy schedules that separate us, we realize and understand the practicality and reality of it all. we may not be in contact as often as we used to those 12 years ago, but when we do reconnect, it’s as though we never lost any time. we may look a little different - our hair is a different color, we got a new piece of facial jewelry or added new ink to our bodily collection, but we pick up right where we left off.
